Why the distinction matters to a buyer

With a third-party lifetime deal there are two parties who can fail you independently: the marketplace can stop listing the product, and the vendor can stop building it. Refunds come from the marketplace, product support comes from the vendor, and a vendor that shuts down leaves the marketplace with nothing to refund because your window closed long ago. With a first-party product those two parties are one, which removes a failure mode and concentrates the rest.

That is not automatically better. A single counterparty means a single point of failure, and a marketplace's incentive to keep maintaining a product it no longer promotes is not obviously stronger than an independent founder's. What it does mean is that the diligence changes: for a third-party deal you research the vendor; for an Original you are betting on the marketplace's staying power.
